Main Street
What remains after the interstates laid waste to small towns across rural America. What used to be the heart of a community is, in most places, only a faint, dying pulse. What was before the big box stores and chain restaurants killed the community's soul. Perhaps this notebook is a love letter from someone who has difficulty letting go. I have always been afraid of endings.
The image on this notebook cover is from downtown Webbers Falls, Oklahoma, murdered by Interstate 40.
Main Street is a little over 5 inches wide and 7 inches long. This notebook is filled with 40 pages of white, unlined paper. As these notebooks are made by hand, one at a time, sizes may vary slightly and there may be slight imperfections. Your notebooks will arrive wrapped in a plastic sleeve and come with a short, hand-written personal reflection based on an aspect of their life cycle.
About This Series
Because I was born, raised, and currently conduct research in the rural Deep South of the United States, I am privileged to consistently be exposed to some pretty spectacular vistas. From the cover photography to the paper cutting, the Rural Notes series is a limited edition of hand-constructed notebooks designed to capture a quintessential—but often overlooked—aspect of rural life. The currently available covers are from my travels to Mississippi (where I was born) and Oklahoma (the home of my mother’s side of the family).
